A & R Spada Farms Production Manager A & R Spada Farms’ LLC, is a family-owned and operated farm located in St. Paul, Oregon, approximately 35 miles south of Portland, and in the heart of Willamette Valley. Our operation started with two brothers growing crops in the 1950’s and has grown and diversified over the years to include nursery stock. Today, we continue to farm as well as expand our wholesale nursery operation focused on growing quality shrubs and ornamentals that are shipped to over 42 states and 6 Canadian Providences. We are hiring a Production Manager to work in our St. Paul location. Within this role, you will act as an assistant grower who oversees plant production and care of woody ornamental and herbaceous plants in fields, greenhouses, CRAVOs, and can-yards, including the facilities required for production. Our ideal candidate brings: • 3-5 years of horticulture, greenhouse, or nursery growing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Previous agronomy experience identifying plant pests/diseases, selecting pesticides or fertilizers, and following an IPM program. • Ability to work extended hours and weekends during busy seasons. • Current Oregon Pesticide License or the ability to obtain licensing is required. • English-Spanish Bilingual speaker preferred. • Valid Driver’s License. Responsibilities: • Set priorities and be flexible in the day-to-day operations of the farm and nursery. • Work with Supervisors and Crew Leaders to implement Management’s production plan. • Manage plant pathogens and insect pests via Plant Health Department. • Conduct weed and pest abatement activities that minimize impact on beneficials. • Oversee routine greenhouse, CRAVO, and can-yard maintenance and repairs. • Keep accurate nursery records and assist in the maintenance of the plant production database. • Utilize computer control systems to ensure proper airflow and watering for plants in production areas. • Schedule shift ups, weeding, pruning, time of sales-ready, inventory, and winter protection. • Planning of rooted cuttings, grafts, and field production. • Forecast purchase planning needed for containers, fertilizer, chemicals, and trellis. • Assist in the tracking of plant location and inventory until the point of sales. • Work with Supervisors in Potting, Field and Propagation departments. • Evaluate efficiency and effectiveness of all techniques to offer suggestions for improvement. • Assist in accordance with the company’s mission of continuous improvement, adopting new, more efficient technology. • Promote and maintain an OSHA-compliant, safe, clean & organized work environment. • Perform other farm-related duties as the season and needs of the business dictate. Physical Requirements: • May occasionally require lifting to 50 pounds. • The ability to walk, stand, and bend at the waist and knees while working • Has the ability to and willingness to work outside in all seasons • Exposure to dust, pollen, agricultural/greenhouse nutrient inputs is common |
