Job Title: Shop Mechanic

Summary: The Shop Mechanic will maintain Farmward’s fleet and equipment, to include semi’s, tractor trailers, pickups, applicator equipment, pay/skid loaders, forklifts and other equipment. Will communicate with patrons and employees in a manner that will create support and loyalty for Farmward Cooperative. As will all positions, must be able to operate in other functions of Ag Operations if needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

·        Maintain, repair and inspect fleet vehicles and equipment

·        Perform duties such as adjusting brakes, aligning wheels, tightening bolts and screws, reassembling equipment, oil changes, battery checks, tire repair, lubricating equipment, and basic electrical repairs. 

·        Perform scheduled, preventative maintenance.

·        Utilize diagnostic equipment to perform repairs and troubleshoot.

·        Inspect and replace drive line components.

·        Remove and replace clutch and transmissions.

·        Conduct annual DOT inspections.

·        Ability and willingness to operate multiple application equipment as business needs dictate.

·        Complete all tasks in a timely efficient manner.

·        Complete all tasks correctly the first time- keep re-works to a minimum.

·        Complies with all laws and regulations that apply to the department.

·        Must maintain a Class A CDL with tanker and Haz-mat endorsements

·        On road field service.

·        Weekends/rotating weekends in season.

·        Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

Education/ Experience:

• Three to five years hands on general mechanical experience- diesel engine and large equipment experience a plus.
• Agricultural background helpful but not necessary.
• Hydraulic experience.
• Diagnostic computer skills.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair and maintenance.
• Basic computer skills: Excel, Word, Email/Outlook helpful.
• Attention to detail.
• Good math skills.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Problem solving and troubleshooting ability.
• Self-motivated/self-directed.
• Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
• Current driver’s license.
• Acquire and maintain Class A CDL with tanker and Haz-mat endorsements.
• Must be able to maintain driving record that will meet our insurance carrier’s requirements.

Essential Physical Requirements:

• Must be in good physical condition capable of lifting, carrying and pushing weights up to 100 pounds and have full use of both arms and legs and both hands.
• Must be able to climb stairs, reach above, below and at shoulder level, work on moving machinery, and work at unprotected heights with dust, fumes, or gas in temperature extremes both inside and outside.
• Must be able to drive vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions

• Take a proactive approach to eliminating any safety hazards in the workplace by alerting the Safety Director.
• Awareness of hazardous materials and MSDS Locations.
