We’re hiring a Nursery Manager in Monroe, NC. This location produces shrubs and ornamental trees split between in-ground and container. The purpose of this nursery is to produce plants for our own in-house landscaping service. As the Nursery Manager, you would lead a small team of 4-6 full-time employees, while also planning, managing, and overseeing nursery functions including crop production, logistics, and plant inventory.

We offer a competitive salary and company vehicle. PTO, bonus program starts after one full year of employment. Optional profit sharing is available after 3 years of service.

Our ideal candidate brings:
  • Prior nursery, horticulture, and/or greenhouse operations management.
  • 5+ years of experience growing annuals, perennials, or ornamental nursery plants, specifically trees, bushes, or shrubs, in containers or the field.
  • Proven ability to identify and mitigate plant diseases and the existence of insects.
  • Previous experience leading a team as a supervisor, crew lead, or superintendent.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Keep organized, detailed, and accurate records.
  • Prepare, manage, and forecast expense budgets and purchasing for the nursery.
  • Organization and placement of on-site plant inventory.
  • Direct plant transportation and delivery to jobsites.
  • Procurement of materials essential for plant production such as seeds, cuttings, containers, ect.
  • Create and manage total production planning for the nursery; pre-harvest and post-harvest.
  • Scheduling and timing of irrigation and water supply to plants.
  • Select and instruct the application of crop inputs such as nutrients, fertilizer, herbicide, insecticides, pesticides, and soil fertility products.
  • Scout field crops daily. Monitor and adjust processes to promote plant health and development as needed.
  • Evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of current business practices and offer suggestions for process improvement.
  • Explore new and innovative or alternative growing practices, such as biologicals or natural controls.
  • Promote the continued growth and expansion of nursery yard production.
  • Ensure a safe workplace by following and promoting safe work practices and procedures.
  • Oversee routine field maintenance and repairs.
  • Other farm duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Plant Soil Science, or any other related fields OR
  • Related professional experience, holding a tile such as grower, field operations manager, nurseryman, or production supervisor.
  • Previous technical knowledge or experience applying agriculture chemicals or lawn and garden care products.
  • English-Spanish Bilingual speaker preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift upwards of 50 pounds.
  • The ability to walk, stand, and bend at the waist and knees while working.
  • Willing and able to work outside in all seasons and weather conditions.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends during busy seasons.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, and agricultural/greenhouse nutrient inputs is common.
